Most of us eat turkey on Thanksgiving, but have you ever met yours before it ended up in the store? This opportunity to participate in the harvest of a turkey for a family holiday focused on gratitude can help us feel more connected to the world that sustains us, and grateful for the sacrifices of those we eat.
This workshop will cover poultry kosher-style slaughter, processing and butchering as we work with this season's flock. We will explore their care, diet, anatomy and ecology, and how to make traditional use of all parts, including the blood, bones, head, feet and organs - as well as the tools needed for this work. We will discuss nutritious recipes as well.
Participants will process and take home a FREE, 100% organic, pastured bronze breasted turkey, ranging in size 10-20 lbs (a $70-120 value), working with them from live to packaged. You are invited, but not required to participate in all steps.
